Joint Commission on Instructional Materials-June 12, 2013

posted Aug 8, 2013, 3:38 PM by ACSA Region 7   [ updated Aug 8, 2013, 3:38 PM ]

I’m forwarding the agenda and handouts from the meeting of the Joint Commission on Instructional materials that was held at the CDE Wednesday, June 12. Please forward on to any interested parties. Here are a couple of highlights from the meeting:

AB484 (Assessment) has passed the Assembly and will go before the Senate June 26.

Related to SBAC: The save icon on the practice tests is not functional; answer keys to the practice tests will be available late summer and PDF versions of the test will also be made available at a later date; District membership fees for SBAC only covers summative assessments and preliminary blueprints provide estimated completion time for summative tests to be 2.5 – 4 hours.

Brokers of Expertise has several modules to support differentiated learning (for adults) related to Common Core Implementation including a module on informational text. BOE is currently working on an Assessment Literacy module, due out this summer and a Science literacy module.

Kansas, Kentucky and Rhode Island already adopted Next Generation Science Standards; RI is the lead state for NGSS. K-5 is developed around individual grade level standards, 6-8 supports learning progressions, an integrated approach and middle school model course pathways.

CDE is cleaning up both the CCSS documents for ELA and Mathematics. The content won’t change but the introductions will and punctuation and spelling errors will be fixed.

Math Framework: IQC makes recommendations July 30 and then the framework will go for public review again for 60 days and then to the State Board of Education

Hope this is helpful. The attached documents provide more detail. Have a fantastic summer!
