Student Services and Special Education - Suzan Turner, Region 7 Representative

On September 22, 2017 the ACSA Student Services and Special Education Council met at the ACSA office in Sacramento. Routine business was discussed and a report on federal issues was provided by Adonai Mack. Kirstin Wright provided an update on California Department of Education and new accountability procedures and standards that are being implemented in CA this year. Following lunch, Darcy Gutierrez, associate from Lozano Smith Law Group provided a presentation on "Meeting the Needs of Students with Trauma - A New Disability?" Thereafter, planning for the 2018 Every Child Counts Symposium, including symposium subcommittee team meetings, transpired. Lastly, there was legislative updates and update reports from Charter Schools, State SELPA Director, CASP, and CAPPA. The committee will meet again on February 13, 2018, the day before the 2018 Every Child Counts Symposium in Anaheim, February 14-16, 2018.
