During the formation of the ACSA Strategic Plan that was developed and approved by the Delegate Assembly in 2012, it was recommended that a Governance Task Force be created to look at the governance structure of ACSA statewide. This work included overview of the board, region, committees/councils and charters to determine alignment with State ACSA. As an advisory group, the Governance Task Force made recommendations to the ACSA State Board and the Leadership Assembly (formerly Delegate Assembly) to provide better consistency, clarity and creation of best practices to guide the organization.

One of the recommendations of the Governance Task Force was to establish a new committee, titled the Leadership Development Committee, with members from each region and the board and chaired by the ACSA State Past President. This committee would be an advisory committee to the board to provide clarity, consistency and alignment of the bylaws of state ACSA and the regions, committees and councils. In addition to this work, the state board has asked the LDC to provide recommendations to the board on how they can help with the board's responsibility to provide leadership development and best practices for the committees and councils each year. David Garcia, Superintendent for the Empire Union School District represents Region VII on this committee. If you have any questions and/or need more information regarding this committee please contact David Garcia via email at dgarcia@empire.k12.ca.us or by phone at 209-521-2800.

During its first meeting, the Leadership Development Committee selected R17 member Julianne Hoefer as co-Chair. Tom Armelino, past ACSA State President, and Julianne will present an update and overview to the ACSA Board of Directors during the October 21, 2016 meeting. The committee also selected four future meeting dates.
